Solution to One Math Problem - Professional Level / Came Out During May 27 CS Exam

Exam Problem (as one which came out during May 27 CS Exam)
Mathematics
===========

Problem:
A wood is divided into 4 pcs with a ratio of:
2:3:4:6. If the longest portion is 14 inches,
what is the total length of the wood?
====================================

Solution:

Figure A:
|  2 |   3 |    4    |     6        | = 15
|----|------|--------|------------|
total length of a given:
 = 2 + 3 + 4 + 6 = 15

Let X be the total length

Figure B:
                            |<------ 14 inches ----->|
|-----------------------------------------------------| = x=?

By ratio and Proportion:

Total Length (A)          Total Length (B)
---------------             = -----------------
Longest Length (A)     Longest Length(B)

        15 / 6                 =     X / 14

        (15)(14)
       ---------                =     X
            6
or
                                     (15)(14)      5 (14)      (5) (7)
            X                    = -------     = ------     = ---------
                                             6            2               1

Answer:
          X                       =  35 inches

 / Therefore the Total length is  35 inches. //

  1. Try to solve this: (As given by my friend JOSEPH - this also came out in the exam)

    Prob:
    A boy is to meet his teacher in the principal's
    room at 7:30 in the morning. If it takes the boy
    30 min. to take a bath, 15 min. to eat his breakfast, 5 min. to brush teeth, 20 min. other morning activities, 25 min. to dress up and 10 min. walking to the School Principal's Room, what will be the latest time he can?
    ===================================
    just share your opinions, corrections or solutions! Thanks!

  5. For Ms Faye:
    May 28, 2012 // 12:02 nn

    We are also so confident that your answer is correct as per
    solution that we can show:

    Total Number of Minutes to consider before 7:30am is that
    Earlier than 7:30am, we have total number of minutes
    for activities that the boy undertook:

    Take a Bath = 30 min.
    Breakfast = 15 min.
    Brush Teeth = 5 min.
    other Morning Activities = 20 min.
    Dress up = 25 min.
    Walking time going = 10 min.
    ......................---------------
    Total 105 min.
    or = 1 hour and 45 min.
    ========================

    Then take note:
    6:30am to 7:30am = 1hour
    5:45am to 6:30am = 45 min
    ---------------------------
    = 1hour and 45 min.

    Therefore, the latest time he can is: 5:45 A. M.
    ===============================================
    // ANSWER: 5:45 A.M.

    How about some others, what are their solutions?

    Thanks Faye for contributing!
